I'm postponing procrastination!

What is your "Inner Game"?;
August 2, 2024A change in the work schedule, tight deadlines for completing a project, a salary cut, or the termination of a collaboration are just some of the decisions that a leader must communicate to team members. Communicating difficult decisions can sometimes be painful, but it is also an important skill worth cultivating if you are leading a team.
Below you will find some suggestions, which I hope will make it easier for you to announce a difficult decision.
1. Prepare yourself BEFORE the announcement of a decision
- Gather all the necessary information. Ensure you understand the reasons for the decision and the potential implications.
- Think about answers to possible questions or concerns. What would you like to ask if you were in the position of the recipient of the decision? What answers would you like to receive?;
- Choose the appropriate environment for the discussion. Make sure the space is quiet and private, free from distractions from phones, emails, etc.
2. Have a structured discussion DURING the meeting at which you will announce the decision
- Start with honesty and transparency. Avoid hiding or downplaying the seriousness of the decision, as you are likely to create resistance and distrust.
- Listen carefully to questions and concerns. Take time without interrupting to listen and understand the other perspective.
- Show empathy and understanding for the employee's feelings. Recognize that the decision may be difficult and show your interest in how the other person feels.
- Explain the reasons behind the decision. Use simple language and avoid technical jargon. Be brief and specific.
- Avoid vague statements. Respond clearly and make sure the employee fully understands the decision and its consequences.
- Focus on the future and offer support. Agree on actions and commit to a feasible action plan. If possible, communicate how the company will help employees adapt to the change.
3. Follow up on agreed actions AFTER from the announcement of the decision
- Contact the employee at regular intervals that you have agreed upon. This can be done via phone, email or in person.
- Offer resources or support, if necessary. This can include counseling, training programs, coaching, mentoring, or even help finding a new job.
What decisions do you find difficult to announce?;
I am here to discuss them with you.
